3 Tips for Setting up for a Successful 2019

How will you make the most of 2019?

A new calendar year provides the opportunity to set goals and to plan for what will be accomplished in the year ahead, whether it be for your business, personal wealth or anything else you wish to accomplish in your life during the year. Following some of the “Habits” from Stephen Covey’s best-selling book, here are some tips to help you ensure you have a successful 2019.

  1. Begin with the end in mind

It sounds simple, but it works. Imagine what you want to achieve by the end of 2019. Where do you want to get to? What do you want to accomplish? What will success look like? We so often get caught up in the day-to-day business of our lives that we forget to keep our eye on the bigger picture. Taking the time to really reflect on where you want to get to, in your business, with your finances or in any other aspect of your life is an important first step in realising these accomplishments.

Maybe you want to go on an overseas holiday or have a specific career goal which requires you to complete a particular qualification; maybe you have a profitable business which you would like to expand, or maybe you would like to sell your business; perhaps it is that you would like to buy your first home or help your children to buy theirs; or maybe you have specific wealth goals to keep you on track for your retirement.

  1. Be Proactive

Be proactive, have a plan and make it happen. Once we’re clear on where we want to get to, it takes grit, determination and focus to keep us on track.

Write down all the goals that are important to you, including personal goals, financial goals, business goals, then break each down into the specific tasks and activities it will take to achieve them. You might create a broad goal for the entire year, plus smaller goals that compliment and help you reach your main goal.

From there, create an outline of how you’ll reach those goals, when you want to accomplish them, and ways that you can ensure you stay on track. This becomes your action plan for the year. Set a time frame and keep yourself on track by reviewing your goals regularly to assess your progress.

  1. Synergise

Take advantage of the help that is available. As Stephen Covey says, together is better. Once you have an action plan and you’re clear on what you’re out to accomplish, seek out the resources and advice that you need.

Don’t be limited by what you’re able to accomplish alone. Seek the help and input of others – whether it be friends or professionals – and amplify your success.

I encourage you to dream big, write a list of your goals, be flexible and break down the steps to measurable and achievable tasks, and get excited. By mid-June the enthusiasm may have waned, and it will require focus and grit to keep ticking off the tasks to keep moving forward.
